Interim Engineering manager NN Bank (Freelance)
We are searching for an interim Engineering manager within the tech domain of Payments, Savings & Investments (PSC) of NN Bank.
As engineering manager, your role is to develop a highly skilled team of engineers by providing coaching and support to enhance their technical and soft skills. You will be responsible for managing approximately 20 employees, including both internal and external hires.
Your role will involve providing a balanced and skilled workforce to support the product owners of Payments and the Savings & Investment domain.
To ensure the bank's software is of high quality, maintainable, available and compliant to regulations, you will ensure that your team adheres to the NN Banks architectural and engineering standards, promoting standardization and reusability of standard components and capabilities.
To comply with regulations and policies such as DORA & GDPR you will facilitate education for your team on these regulations and ensure they apply and implement the necessary controls and measures in NN Banks' software applications.
This is a 6-month freelance assignment until 30-09-2026.

- Contribute to NN Bank’s tech transformation roadmap within T&T
- Translate bank wide engineering and technology standards into actionable implementation for teams
- Manage staffing, hiring, onboarding and workforce planning within your engineering expertise area and within budget
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Align goals and objectives with Product Owners, Solution Architects and the broader engineering community
- Represent your engineering domain in cross bank initiatives and T&T governance
- Promote cross team knowledge sharing and help reduce domain silos

Who you are
We are looking for a professional that has:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience in coaching or leading role such as engineering manager, IT manager, project manager, product owner or team lead
- Strong coaching, leadership and management skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Collabaration is key to our success
- Experience in the financial sector is a big plus
Who you will work with
As a member of the NNB/T&O/PSC department, you will report to the technology manager PSC. The department consists of three engineering managers, one DevOps manager and one Reliability Lead all working together to support the domain.
You will collaborate on regular basis with engineering managers from risk & finance, mortgages, payments, savings & investments, and bank assurance to promote re-use, knowledge sharing, and career development for the engineering expertise at NN Bank.
Collaboration will be critical in this role, as you will work closely with project managers, product owners, architects, Group-IT service & platform teams, the engineering guild, and stakeholders in the Risk domain.
Additionally, you will work with the (solution) architects and servicing team in Group-IT to improve efficiency by encouraging knowledge transfer and re-use of components, either by utilizing the centrally provided components & building blocks or bringing locally built components to the central code base of NN DAP.
It is also important to interact with colleagues from security and non-financial risk to ensure that all solutions comply with our IT-risk standards.
